High silicon cast iron anodes are widely used as a corrosion-resistant material due to their low cost and abundant raw materials. They have been the main anode material for cathodic protection since the 1950s. High silicon cast iron anodes have good corrosion resistance because the surface of the anode can form a stable silicon dioxide film, which is effective in both seawater and freshwater. We recommend using chromium or molybdenum chromide to prevent hypochlorite corrosion.
